What El Paso Clinics Need From a Medical Director

El Paso has 678,815 residents, and 66.4 percent of those age five and older speak a language other than English at home, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. That makes a bilingual physician a practical need for med spas, weight loss clinics, and IV lounges in the Sun City. Texas doesn’t grant nurse practitioners independent practice, so Botox, GLP-1 prescriptions, hormone therapy, and elective IV therapy all need a Texas-licensed physician to delegate them. That delegation happens through a prescriptive authority agreement or written orders. Your medical director in El Paso signs your prescriptive authority agreement and writes the delegation orders your staff work under. They join your monthly quality assurance meetings and complete the chart reviews your agreement specifies. They also support your prescribing and stay available for questions after launch.

Three Roadblocks El Paso Clinics Run Into

1
Weeks of waiting on a callback

Many El Paso providers finish their build-out and hire staff, then lose weeks of revenue waiting for a medical director in El Paso to confirm availability.

2
Pricing that cuts into margins

Revenue-share deals and large retainers take a cut of every treatment, and a new clinic feels that cost before its appointment book fills.

3
Oversight that doesn't fit your services

Some physicians haven’t written Chapter 169 delegation orders or worked under Texas’s 2025 IV therapy law, while others restrict services your license already allows.

Who We Serve

Who We Serve in El Paso, TX

Nurse Practitioners (NPs)

We draft your prescriptive authority agreement, register the delegation with the Texas Medical Board, and set up your monthly quality assurance meetings. Your NP medical director in El Paso also handles the chart reviews your agreement specifies.

Registered Nurses (RNs)

RNs perform medical procedures under a physician’s written orders. An RN medical director in El Paso writes those orders for injectables, weight loss programs, and elective IV therapy.

Physician Assistants (PAs)

Texas PAs prescribe through the same agreement structure as NPs, with licensing under the Texas Physician Assistant Board. Your PA medical director in El Paso signs the agreement and joins your monthly meetings.

Estheticians

Microneedling, laser services, and medical-grade peels can cross into the practice of medicine in Texas. We set up the physician delegation estheticians need before those services go on your menu.

Your medical director in El Paso signs your prescriptive authority agreement and writes the delegation orders your staff work under.

Compliance Deep-Dive

Texas Medical Director and Collaborating Physician Rules for El Paso Clinics

Texas Occupations Code §157.0512 requires a written PAA before an NP or PA prescribes. The agreement lists the drug categories you may and may not prescribe, your consultation and referral plan, and a quality assurance plan. You and your physician must meet at least monthly, review the agreement every year, and produce it within three business days if a board asks.

Your physician must register the delegation with the Texas Medical Board under §157.0511 before you write your first prescription. Delegated controlled substance prescribing is limited to Schedules III through V, with a 90-day supply cap. That rule matters for El Paso clinics offering testosterone therapy, since testosterone is a Schedule III drug.

Since January 9, 2025, 22 TAC Chapter 169, Subchapter E has governed how physicians delegate Botox, fillers, and laser treatments. Every delegated procedure needs a written order from your physician. A physician, PA, or APRN must be on site or immediately available for emergency consultation. Your clinic must also post the delegating physician’s name and Texas license number in public areas and treatment rooms.

House Bill 3749, known as Jenifer’s Law, took effect September 1, 2025. A physician may delegate ordering of elective IV therapy to a PA or APRN, and administration to a PA, APRN, or RN, all under adequate physician supervision. LVNs and estheticians can’t administer it. Every IV therapy PAA counts toward the physician’s seven-provider cap, even in practices that serve medically underserved populations.

Every Medical Director Co. placement includes malpractice coverage confirmation for your El Paso clinic.

FAQs

FAQs: El Paso, TX Medical Director

Texas requires every prescribing NP to hold a prescriptive authority agreement with a Texas-licensed physician. Texas law also reserves medical practice ownership for physicians, so many NP-led clinics use a management services organization structure. We match you with the physician and prepare the agreement your clinic needs to open.

Most collaborating physician duties in Texas can be done remotely, including chart review and PAA meetings. Since a 2019 law change, the physician and provider choose how to hold the required monthly meetings, including by video. Your agreement records the meeting method, and every meeting still needs written documentation.

Texas treats Botox, fillers, laser treatments, and elective IV therapy as medical acts that require physician delegation. Without it, the clinic and any licensee involved face Texas Medical Board complaints and administrative penalties. A signed agreement and written orders keep your services within Texas law from your first patient.

Texas caps each physician at seven APRNs and PAs, or their full-time equivalent, under prescriptive authority agreements. Practices serving medically underserved populations and hospital facility-based practices are exempt from that cap. Elective IV therapy agreements always count toward the seven under Jenifer’s Law, with no exemption.

Texas doesn’t require the physician to be in the building for most day-to-day oversight. Delegated procedures like injectables and IV therapy need a physician, PA, or APRN on site or immediately available for emergencies. Rule 169.26 also requires at least one person trained in basic life support on site during those procedures.

We match most El Paso clinics with a Texas-licensed physician within 12 hours. You also get a same-day intro call to talk with your physician before you sign. From there, our team prepares your agreement and compliance paperwork for review.
